Properzi Continuous Casting and Rolling (CCR)
Model MINI 9
Rated at 2.5 ton per hour and 12,000 tons per year.
Year of Mfg.1997
Product: 9.5mm EC grade aluminum rod.  Process control by Siemens PLC S 5.
The CCR line consists of:
1 Charging machine
A conveyor mounted on rails in front of melting furnace charging door.  The aluminum load is placed on the conveyor before conveyor advances into opened melting furnace and dumps load into furnace. Each step of conveyor is manually operated.
2 Furnaces
Equipped with three furnaces, one stationary 20 ton melting and two tilting 12 ton holding furnaces to provide a continuous supply of molten metal.  Molten aluminum flows through transfer launders, by gravity from melting to either holding furnace and then by variable speed tilting control at each holding to the casting machine. Each furnace is heated by 2 burners using either natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
3 Degassing Unit
A FDU (Foundry Degassing Unit, Model Foseco FDU 502) for melt treatment – degassing and cleaning of molten aluminum.  Operates according to the impeller principle, rotor mixes aluminum with an inert gas.
4 Casting Machine
Is a water-cooled rotary wheel casting machine with a copper alloy casting ring mold.  Wheel is about 1400mm in diameter and ring groove has a cross sectional area of about 1290 sq mm.  The 4th side of casting mold is created by the mild steel belt which tracks around the ring mold and a similar sized idle wheel.
5 Sensor Arm
Comprised of a set of idle wheels operating on a cantilevered arm that pivot about its mounted axis.  Arm is for the synchronization of the casting machine and the rolling mill.
6 Automatic and Manual Shear
The automatic shear, located after the motorized pinch roll is a rotary style cutter.  Used for cutting the cast bar during start-ups or whenever an emergency stop of the rolling mill occurs. The hydraulic manual shear is used when necessary to cut the cast bar at any convenient position.
7 Rolling Mill
Is a (12) twelve-stand rolling mill with a gear driven pinch roll.  Each stand and pinch roll is driven by a single D.C. motor coupled directly to the mill transmission.   Two oil lubricating system are connected to supply oil to the bearings and gears.
8 Rod Quench System
Consists of a set of guides in an enclosed chamber containing special water spraying heads.
9 Coiler
Consists of a loop forming head, accumulator and two interchanging baskets.  Coil dimension is about 1700mm (outer diameter), 900mm (inner diameter) and 1000mm (height, without pallet).  Weight is 2000 kg and rod is paid off vertically.
